AI
Optional, and off until you pick a provider. Use Ollama on your Mac, so nothing leaves it, or Claude or OpenAI with your own API key.

Providers
| Provider | What's needed | Where your data goes |
|---|---|---|
| Off | Nothing | Nowhere. AI features are hidden. |
| Ollama (on this Mac) | Ollama running, and a chat model. Server defaults to http://localhost:11434. | Stays on your Mac. |
| Claude | An API key from console.anthropic.com, kept in your login Keychain. Model claude-opus-5-5 by default. | Addon names, descriptions, and changelog text go to Anthropic, and nowhere else. |
| OpenAI | An API key from platform.openai.com, kept in your login Keychain. Model gpt-6-astra by default. | Addon names, descriptions, and changelog text go to OpenAI, and nowhere else. |
Set it up in Settings > AI, then press Test Connection. MacMinion sends no telemetry.

API keys and models
- Paste a key and press Save to Keychain. Remove Key deletes it. Each provider has its own key, readable only while your Mac is unlocked.
- The status reads No key configured, Not tested, Connected, Invalid key, or Rate limited.
- Model IDs change often. Type any ID, or press the list button to choose from the models your key can use. The last list is kept for when you're offline.
Choosing an Ollama model
MacMinion reads the models on your Ollama server and recommends one for this Mac:
- Coding and embedding models are left out; the model must fit in 60% of your memory.
- It prefers recent chat models around 8 to 16 billion parameters, models already loaded, and ones that fit in the memory free right now.
- Benchmark Top Models writes a short summary with the three best candidates and measures their speed here. A model slower than 15 tokens a second drops down the list.
Choose Use next to the recommendation, or any model in the menu.
Changelog summaries
An addon's details show What's New: a few bullets on what changed since your installed version, written as the model streams them. Summarize Updates on the Updates page writes one digest for every pending update. Turn on Settings > AI > "Summarize changes when I open an addon with an update" to have it happen on its own. Summaries can be wrong: check the changelog before relying on one.
Recommended for You
On the Overview, the AI looks at what you have installed (with each addon's category and a one-line description) and suggests up to six popular addons that would add something without doing the same job as one you have. Forks of installed addons are never suggested. Suggestions refresh on their own once a week, or with Suggest Again.
AI search
Under Recommended for You, describe what you want, such as "show me where treasure maps and survey reports are" or "a cleaner combat HUD", and press Return. The AI turns it into search words and categories, narrows the catalog, then picks the best matches with a reason for each.
Ratings steer the AI
A thumbs up adds "favor addons like these" to the AI's instructions; a thumbs down adds "avoid addons like these" and removes that addon from suggestions and search results. Rate from any card, menu, details pane, or AI pick.
